A rich, smooth homemade chocolate made from three simple ingredients — coconut oil, cocoa powder, and maple syrup — that melts in your mouth and supports healthy digestion.
This recipe started as what I used to make when I wanted chocolate but didn’t have any in the house — quick, simple, and satisfying. Over time, it became a staple: deeply chocolatey, made from a short list of simple ingredients, and easy to customize with whatever toppings you have on hand.
Unlike many packaged chocolates, this version keeps things simple: cocoa powder, coconut oil, and maple syrup. Cocoa is naturally rich in magnesium and polyphenols, while coconut oil provides the fat that gives the chocolate its smooth, melt-away texture.
Why This Chocolate Is Good for Digestion
Chocolate and digestion can coexist when the ingredients are real and simple.
Coconut oil provides fat that helps with the absorption of fat-soluble nutrients and gives the chocolate its smooth texture.
Cocoa powder is one of the best sources of magnesium — the mineral that helps relax muscles and support healthy gut motility.
Pure maple syrup adds natural sweetness along with small amounts of minerals, including manganese.
How to Make It
You’ll only need one bowl and about 10 minutes.
Melt the coconut oil until liquid but not hot.
Whisk in the maple syrup and vanilla until glossy.
Add cocoa powder and salt, whisking until completely smooth.
Pour into molds, muffin cups, or a parchment-lined tray.
Freeze until solid — about 30 minutes.
Store in the fridge or freezer. This chocolate melts easily at room temperature — a good sign it’s made with real ingredients.
Topping Ideas
Keep it simple or make it beautiful — toppings add crunch, minerals, and texture.
Nuts + seeds: pistachios, almonds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds.
Dried fruit: goji berries, dried mango, or freeze-dried raspberries.
Extras: cacao nibs, shredded coconut, flaky sea salt, or cinnamon.
Make It Sugar-Free
To make this recipe 100% sugar-free, swap maple syrup for monk fruit or liquid stevia. Start small and adjust to taste. These alternatives provide sweetness with little to no sugar, making them an option if you prefer a lower-sugar chocolate.
